News #1 Facebook is testing the sharing of URLs in Stories. A new source of traffic?

What if the Story format was the new source of Facebook traffic for websites? The number one social network seems to test the possibility of sharing links via this one.

Facebook is constantly developing the Stories format, inspired by Snapchat. And today, we learn via a French media that the social network is now testing the possibility of sharing links on these Stories.

A Siècle digital journalist discovered today that when sharing a link on the Facebook page of this media, it was possible to check the “your story” option.

How do Facebook Stories appear with a link?
The publication is divided into three parts. A part is occupied by the status, a second is occupied by the thumbnail of the link and the third part is for the link, on which the user can click.

Unfortunately, I have not managed to replicate this experience with my Facebook account, which suggests that for the moment, it is a test.

Nevertheless, the fact that Facebook is exploring the possibility of putting links on the Stories is a good thing for publishers who are always looking for sources of traffic for their websites. Indeed, the Story format is becoming increasingly important for Facebook, which has already adopted it on its various services (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp). Facebook even thinks that Stories could later become more important than publications on the newsfeed.

Stories are mostly popular on WhatsApp and Instagram. On Facebook, however, the format already has an audience of 150 million views per day. And the number one social network has even begun to monetize the Stories with advertising.

We also note that if Facebook is still exploring the possibility of sharing links on Stories, Instagram already allows it to do so. However, this feature is still reserved for business accounts with more than 10,000 followers.

News #2 You can now request a “verified account” on Instagram

If you are an influencer on Instagram, it will now be easier for you to request a verified account badge.

While it’s already easy for influential users of Facebook, Twitter or YouTube to get a “verified” account badge, it was a bit more complicated on Instagram. But now, the social network of sharing photos and videos makes it easy to obtain these badges.

Indeed, in a blog post, Mike Krieger, co-founder of the platform, announces a new procedure to obtain this famous badge, which guarantees the authenticity of the accounts of influencers, celebrities, etc.

“The verified blue badge is an important way to know that the account you are interacting with is the authentic presence of a public figure, celebrity, brand, or global entity. Today, we allow a new method for accounts that reach a wide audience and meet our criteria for requesting verification via a form within the Instagram application, “Krieger announces.

To obtain the badge, an Instagram account must follow the conditions of use of the social network. To access this new form, users just have to go to the settings of the Instagram app, then “ask for verification”. Of course, all accounts that apply for this badge will not get it. After sending the request, Instagram will notify the user if the request has been accepted or declined.

Measures against false influencers and support for third-party authentication services
In addition to the verified badge, the Instagram co-founder also introduced a new section on profiles with lots of followers on the social network. “Over the next few weeks, you’ll be able to see more information about Instagram accounts that reach a wide audience so you can assess the authenticity of the account,” Krieger announces.

In this section, you will see the account creation date, the country from which the account is operated, the accounts with which it has common followers name changes and the advertisements created by it. “Our community told us it was important for them to better understand the accounts that affect many people on Instagram, especially when these accounts share information related to news events, political or social causes, example, “says the co-founder of Instagram.

And finally, the social network proposes a novelty that will better secure the accounts. Soon, it will be possible to protect Instagram accounts with third-party authentication applications.

It appears that the introduction of this two-step form of authentication is intended to reassure users after the wave of account piracy that recently affected Instagram.

News #3 Watch, Facebook’s video platform, is now available worldwide

Launched in the United States in 2017, Facebook’s Watch platform is now available worldwide.

Facebook continues its efforts to boost the audience of videos on its social network. And after dramatically improving the native video format on the platform, the company today announced the global launch of Watch.

As a reminder, this is a tab of the social network dedicated to video, with which Facebook intends to shade its rival YouTube. After a launch in the United States, this tab is now available worldwide.

“We launched Watch in the United States last year to enable our users to have strong participatory experiences and to engage with the content / media creators they love and follow. “, We explain in a statement. “Every month more than 50 million people come on Watch to consume video content for at least 1 minute. The time spent on Watch has also multiplied by 14 since the beginning of 2018. “

What is this tab for?

The first use of Watch is the discovery of video content. If there is already the news feed to be entertained with Facebook videos, Watch is a dedicated platform. On the other hand, as on YouTube, Facebook Watch also allows you to follow creators. And the videos of the creators you follow will be highlighted in a section called Watchlist. You can customize this section by adding or deleting pages. And finally, Facebook Watch also groups the videos you have saved.

On the other hand, Facebook evokes the arrival of new interactive experiences on Watch. “In the near future, we’ll be introducing new experiences into your Watch feed, such as Watch Parties, and making Live Videos easier to find so you can discuss important live events,” says the social network.

When it comes to monetizing videos, Facebook already offers a program that generates revenue through commercial breaks. “Finally, we’re expanding our Ad Breaks program so more partners can monetize their videos. We also offer creators and media to find more tools and tips for Pages in the Creator Studio. ” In the United States, Facebook has even released its checkbook to fund content creators and media for this tab Watch.

On iOS and Android, this new tab is accessible via a new icon on the shortcut bar of the Facebook application, as well as via the bookmark “see more”.

News #4 The Google Go app can now read articles for the user

Google wants to encourage people to consume long articles.

In addition to Android Go, a lighter variant for low-cost smartphones of its mobile operating system, Google has also launched a series of optimized applications for these smartphones, such as Go Assistant, YouTube Go or Maps Go.

Last year, the Mountain View firm also launched Google Go, which the company describes as a way of researching devices that may have less space and less reliable internet connections. Currently, this application would already have “millions of users” in the world.

And today, Google has a new feature for it: reading articles.

AI on low cost smartphones and 2G connections
“Today, we are launching a new feature that will allow anyone using Google Go’s browser to listen to Web pages aloud. Based on natural language processing and AI speech synthesis, this technology can read billions of web pages in 28 languages and a naturally resonant voice aloud, even on 2G connections. It also uses minimal cellular data. This technology relies on AI to determine which parts of a page should be read and which parts should be ignored. So you only listen to what’s important, “says Mountain View.

This one hopes that thanks to Google Go, it will be easier for the users to consume long articles, since it becomes as easy as to watch television or to listen to the radio. On the other hand, information can be done in multitasking mode, since the user can do something else at the same time. “For those who learn new languages, every word is highlighted during reading, allowing you to follow and accelerate your learning,” says the firm.

The fact that Google is constantly finding new improvements for its Android Go ecosystem illustrates its commitment to conquer emerging and developing countries with products tailored to the particularities of these markets.
